Highly Recommended by Scleroderma from A to Z ("sclero.org")
Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease that can cause a hardening of the skin, blood vessels, and internal organs. Although there is no proven treatment or cure for scleroderma, there are still plenty of things you can do to treat the individual symptoms and to combat the effects of it.

When systemic scleroderma begins to affect your hands and/or face, get this book immediately and begin the exercises, hopefully under the guidance of a physical or occupational therapist.

Although this slim paperback was published in 1994, it remains as the best resource for learning how to do maintain and improve flexibility when systemic scleroderma is causing a swelling or hardening of the hands and/or face.

When the swelling begins in the hands it is very important to get this book and to see an occupational therapist right away. They can: • Instruct you in how to do the exercises in this book. • Make splints to help shape the hands into the best possible position in the event that they continue to harden. • Try wax treatments, which may relieve pain and improve circulation and flexibility.

There are arthritis and scleroderma support groups worldwide -- both online and in your country -- where you can find comfort, information, and support. Get involved in them so that you can learn the best ways to cope with scleroderma!

Author: Philip McGrath
Average review score:

A real bummer
One of life's little epiphanies for me occurred when my secretary told me once, "Your proctologist called, they found your head." Although this was a little embarrassing, I can tell you, sometimes there's no substitute for a good proctologist.

Wonderful book
I found these memoirs of the renouned proctologist both entertaining and edifying. A marvelous read.

Shao-Lin Chuan: The Rhythm and Power of Tan-Tui
Published in Paperback by North Atlantic Books (December, 1996)
Author: Simmone Kuo
Average review score:

A detailed description of exercises
This book contains a great deal of information about a series of exercises collectively called Tan-Tui. Both the pictures and text are well done, descriptive, and comprehensive. A complete beginner may not be able to put the information in this book into practice, but a background in martial arts would make it possible. I was taught a similar series of motions as part of my tai chi studies, but didn't know anything more about them than their name. This book gives good background information for the motions, and explains how they were historically used as part of martial arts training. This book would be useful to anyone wanting a detailed description of a set of exercises to increase their strength and flexibility.

tams style basic shaolin
this style is the base of many kung fu styles and was used by bodyguards to protect caravans on thier journey's.this style stresses kicking and long fist techniques.an excellent base to begin study from if you wish to learn kung fu.

You Can Learn Something, Too
That's right, you can learn something, too! "Shelterwood: Discovering The Forest" is packed with information about the environment that will enlightened you as well as your students. For instance, did you know that a baby porcupine is called a porcupette? The teacher's guide contains fifteen chapters worth of creative forest related information. Within the guide, there are eighty well designed activities for children ranging from the third and sixth grade levels, including such topics as how to identify different species of trees, plants, and animals. Also, there are up to thirty three hand-outs that include anything from instructions on how to identify different animal tracks,or simple explanations on a tree's ever changing life. Included in the guide are several tree trivia questions with the ability to stump the best of environmentally educated minds. Of course, the trivia questions also come with well detailed answers that leave you full with knowledge. The teacher's guide may be designed for students, but I guarantee that the students won't be the only ones learning. This is the best source of environmental information for teachers who bring, or hope to bring, nature to the school year's curriculum.

This is a truly beautiful book!
This is a truly beautiful book! The story is simple - a grandfather teaches his granddaughter about the trees and animals in the forest. The text and superb illustrations convey the gentleness of the grandfather/granddaughter relationship as well as the beauty of the forest and need for stewardship. I loved it!

Small Animal Clinical Nutrition
Published in Hardcover by Mark Morris Institute (December, 1999)
Authors: Lon D. Lewis, Michael S. Hand, and Mark L. Morris
Average review score:

Very technical but very useful.
The 4th edition of Small Animal Clinical Nutrition is significantly different from the first 3 editions -- expanded, more information, different editors, different organization, etc.

Much of this volume is more technical than the average reader wants or needs. It is a textbook used in veterinary schools. But a dedicated reader could gain much from it. Even the average reader could benefit from the chapters on commerical pet foods and on home prepared diets.

Contributions
Is good to see this book is not just written by nutriologist, there is an important contribution of clinicians dedicated to specific areas.

Small Gifts In God's Hands
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson (05 September, 2000)
Authors: Max Lucado and Cheri Bladholm
Average review score:

The Best for Kids!!!
It is not secret that Max Lucado is a story teller, and this book designed for children (and adults as well), he tells a few of the stories of Christ through the eyes of his character "Elijah" and his mother "Miriam." Cheri Bladholm, who did the artwork, is just phenomenal, and every pages is filled with her exquisite artwork. There are so many favorites, but one of mine is the scene where the woman is pouring oil on Christ's feet.

Get this book and read it over and over again to your children, and to yourself.

NO GIFT IS SMALL TO GOD
This is one of the most gentle and beautiful books I have ever read. It is the story of the prophet Elijah, nephew of St. Peter and friend of Jesus.

The child Elijah and his widowed mother work hard to make ends meet. Elijah sells the bread his mother bakes and fishes for their supper. His cousin, whose father is St. Peter, talks about the Teacher/Rabbi, the man named Jesus who talks of love and fairness. Elijah is excited and begs his mother to let him hear the Rabbi Jesus speaks. Her usual response is that if Jesus is who He claims to be, no gift is too small. Before she lets him join his cousin to hear Jesus, he has to clean their home and help her with the household chores. Once he finishes his chores, he joins his cousin, his Uncle Peter and others to hear Jesus.

Saddened by the dearth of food and shelter to offer Jesus, Elijah asks his mother what they can give this gentle teacher. She tells him yet again that no gift is small to Jesus. Pondering this, Elijah offers Jesus the basket of fish he caught that morning. Jesus thanks him and says how lucky it was the boy caught them because the crowd had grown in number and the people were hungry. They just might like some fish.

Reaching into the basket, Jesus manages to feed the crowd a seemingly inexhaustible supply of fish. Elijah, Peter, and the others watch with amazed delight. That night, Elijah talks about Jesus in great length to his cousin and mother. Elijah's mother smiled and imparted her message yet again that no gift is small to Jesus.

This is such an outstanding book with first rate illustrations. It is an excellent teaching tool and a wonderful reminder of the message Elijah's mother imparted. Each time one gives to God, that gift is welcomed wholeheartedly and is never small to Him.

I really love this book.

All animal people will be deeply moved and inspired by Ms. Mooney's story of cats approaching a prolonged painful death. The Still Good Hand of God: The Magic and Mystery of the Unconscious Mind
Published in Paperback by Nicolas-Hays (May, 1991)
Author: Michael Gellert
Average review score:

Modern Mysticism
I'm at a loss as to why this book is not better known. Whenever someone asks me where he or she should start in order to break their mind free from its habitual sleepwalking, into an expanded view of reality, this remarkable book is where I suggest that they start. I've read it at least three times now- and I'm quite prepared to do so again.

This book is about the unconscious as much as it is religious experience (as opposed to religious dogma.) This is because the author sees the unconscious as the matrix from which God reaches out to us. He isn't saying that God is merely another name for the unconscious- he is saying that the unconscious is the interface whereby we interact with God. The perspective is Jungian, yet it goes far beyond Jung's published works. This is because the author recognizes that the unconscious is far more vast than even Jung imagined. The purpose of this work is to ready us for our own interaction with the unconscious- and therefore, God.

A perfect example of a man being driven to his limits, and as a result, being forced into a new level of awareness and consciousness, is the author's account of his harrowing experiences in Calcutta, India. He found himself transformed into a defacto saddhu, or wandering holy man, against his will. He was suddenly hungry, homeless, and defenseless among the homeless and outcast in the city of Kali- and experienced an enlightenment, or epiphany, of "oneness" as a result. This man was truly in the "Belly of the Whale." If you've ever been in similar conditions, you will recognize the unmistakable truth of the account. Such an experience either breaks or kills you- or you break through the veil....

Presents convincing testimony for the invisible realities.
Author presents his childhood experience of God as well as unusual perceptions connected with a nightmarish passage in India among the untouchables. His evocative portrayal of his experiences reveals the subtext of the immaterial in the material world and God in human suffering as well as the unusual capabilities of the human psyche.
